Edmonton podcast roundup: Feb. 10, 2016

This week’s podcast roundup has politics, self-reflection, sports, travel, etiquette, theatre, toys, movies and comedy, plus a few interesting extras.

  • There are many good reasons to listen to the latest edition of The Press Gallery, but especially because it is the swan song of Sheila Pratt, who has now left The Journal (and to whom I am forever grateful because she hired me way back when).
  • You can get even more politics, as well as a really interesting discussion about what an arts degree should consist of, from Elliott Tanti and Michael Vecchio on Highlevel Showdown.
  • The guys at My Side of Life have a pretty deep conversation about vulnerability, inspired by the work of Brene Brown.
  • If you need a quick reset, I recommend Pamella Heikel’s Sunday Soul Chat.
  • On the For Kicks podcast, Jessica and Katie tee up for the Canadian women’s national soccer team’s appearance at the CONCACAF tournament on the road to Rio.
  • The North by NorthGretz crew talk Oilers from Jasper, where they reminisce about the early days of OilersNation and turn out to be quite wrong about how Edmonton would fare against Montreal.

  • What’s it like to live in Paris? Find out from former Edmontonian Lillian Small’s conversation with Adam Rozenhart on The Expats.
  • Off Menu’s Phil Wilson tackles tipping, with a debate between Kory Mathewson and Julian Faid, and a conversation with Garner Beggs and Kelsey Johnson.
  • Taylor Chadwick has a hilarious and informative talk with Darrin Hagen and Trevor Schmidt about their new musical, Klondykes, on What It Is.
  • On the Northern Nerdcast, Daniel Shessel and Chelsea Thompson nerd out with collector and appraiser Shane Turgeon of the Edmonton Collector Con.
  • On Trash, Art and the Movies, Erin E. Fraser and Paul Matwychuk judge the pre-reboot movies that emerged from The X-Files and Twin Peaks.
  • I had a hilarious and mellifluous conversation with comedians Dan Taylor and Ben Proulx of 30 Minute Week. Next up on the Seen and Heard in Edmonton podcast are Lori Godin of Frugal Edmonton Mama and David Dodge of Green Energy Futures.

A few more podcast notes:

That’s what I had time to listen to, but there’s plenty more to be found in previous podcast roundups, on the Northern Content Network, and on the Edmonton Nerd List’s media page.

We are going to discuss monetizing your podcast at our next podcasting meetup on Feb. 28 at 1 pm at Variant Edition. Steven Schapansky of Radio Free Skaro will share what he has learned about crowdfunding, merch, speaking gigs, etc., and more will be announced soon. Podcasters and the pod-curious are welcome, and it’s free. RSVP here.
