Meet Sharon Yeo, the woman behind Only Here for the Food, one of Edmonton’s great food blogs, and the co-founder of What the Truck?!, the food-truck festival that has had a huge impact on the food scene and on the city’s sense of community.
Like many bloggers, Sharon started because she liked to write and this seemed like a good way to get to do that. She is unusual in that she has been at it for so long — about 10 years — and so consistently. You can count on her Food Notes every Monday without fail, and in between time she recaps and comments on various adventures in the increasingly vibrant world of local food.
“A couple that blogs together stays together,” we joke in the episode. Sharon and her husband, Mack Male, share a dedication to regularly updating their audiences. When they got married in 2014, they covered it beautifully.
Here’s my conversation with Sharon:
You can also listen to it on SoundCloud, or subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.
Sharon reads a ton of food blogs, and keeps careful tabs on #yegfood on Twitter to know what’s going on. Here are the three food blogs she highlighted in our conversation:
- Liane Faulder’s Eat My Words
- Phil Wilson’s Baconhound
- Cindy Nguyen’s Let’s Om Nom
The final What the Truck?! food festival of the season takes place Sept. 11 at Churchill Square. It will be the biggest one yet, with 35 trucks scheduled to be there.
